Our Toronto Songwriters' Festival was a huge success! Thanks to all who came out and contributed to making this such a special and inspiring event. We raised almost $5,000, which means we now have enough money to go and complete our projects in Laos and India. Thank you! Because of you, many children will have a better shot at a better life, and that's no small thing. Thank you also to those kind souls who have just stepped forward and donated money. I'm always amazed and uplifted by the kindness of people.

The financial result from the Toronto Songwriters' Festival was presented at the board meeting on Oct. 22nd, 2006. The event raised $5,292.74! Earlier this week, The Rotary Club of Chilliwack has donated $1,000.00! This means we are on track for our upcoming project. Thank you to everyone!

Thanks to all for making the Toronto Songwriters' Festival a great success. Jojo Chintoh cut the ribbon, and we made the 11pm news on Citvtv! More importantly, we reached our initial goal of $5,000, and may still meet our "dream" goal of $6,000 through general donations. We are grateful to the performers, Jojo, our sponsors (who covered the costs of the event), our volunteers, Hugh's Room, and everyone who came out to be part of it. It was really an amazing night.
Now we'll be working on getting all the books in order, and pre-organizing some of the projects before we arrive in Laos in late December. (And also doing all those mundane life things we haven't had time to do for the last few months!)
We'll be leaving for Laos on Dec. 26 and will post photos of our progress in January (depending on the Internet connection).
We are so grateful for all the help we've received from so many people. Thank you for caring about this project, and caring about these children. People often ask us why we are doing this. The answer? Because it's fun to help people. Or, as I like to say, "It feels good to do good." Nothing feels better than knowing you've made an impact on someone else's life. Human beings also thrive on connection, and coming together to do things for others creates a powerful connection. And there's no downside to helping others. So...the real question should be: Why not?
Join us! We are on a grassroots mission to bring people together to reach out and directly help the children in this world who need it most desperately, and to do it one school at a time. The great success of Sunday night's event proves that it's possible--that ordinary people like you and me can do this thing together.

I swear, these days if I blink a week has passed! It has been the busiest summer ever. We have had a couple meetings since the last one and everything is going better than we could have imagined. Just to name a few things... Drew has been busy creating a documentary of Jai Dee, and will be launching it at the Toronto Songwriters Festival. A number of generous people/companies have donated
cool items for our silent auction. Our volunteers have been helping with all of this, and also with putting the word out about the event to everyone they know.
The excitement is definitely building! If you haven't bought your tickets yet, you had better get them soon (they're selling fast)!
