Jai Dee (Good Heart) Children's Fund's charity incorporation number is #1696406. We are in the process of applying for our registered charity number through Revenue Canada.

What is Jai Dee?
We created Jai Dee (Good Heart) Children's Fund with the belief that it takes very little to make a big difference as long as you go forward with "jai dee." In the Southeast Asian countries of Laos and Thailand, if someone tells you that you have "jai dee," it means you have a "good heart."

What is Our Mission Statement
To help children rise above poverty through education.

How Do We Help Children?
We partner with needy schools that have strong leadership in place and support them at a grassroots level. This can include providing teacher training and resources/materials, improving the school environment (providing clean water, toilets, etc.), and offering scholarships to children who can't afford to attend school. It can also include creating lunch programs (children can't learn if their starving), and educating children on health, agriculture and environmental preservation through various projects. We search out local solutions for local problems, so that positive changes will be sustainable. We also hire local contractors and businesses whenever possible, which keeps costs down and supports the students' community.

We are able to carefully oversee our projects because we are a small charity. We currently have only two projects, one in Laos and one in India. We know that every child we help may grow up to positively influence hundreds, maybe thousands of lives (for proof of this, read the story of British Khoarai in South Africa). We want to help plant those positive seeds in the world.

What's special about Jai Dee Children's Fund?

  1. See Results. Often when you give money to a charity, you don't get to see the final result of how your money is helping those who need it. We will post photos of all of our projects on our website for donors to see. We will also create and post videos whenever possible.
  2. Low Overhead. Often when you give money to a charity, some of that money is going toward paying salaries and administrative costs. Because JDCF is a micro-charity that operates on a grassroots basis, it has very little overhead costs. It is run entirely by volunteers who want to help children rise above poverty through education. All money donated to JDCF goes directly to our projects, unless the donor specifically designates it to cover operating costs, for which we are, of course, grateful.
  3. Accountability. We believe in being accountable for all the money that donors give to us, and making sure it goes directly to pay for projects. We check to make sure project costs are in keeping with the actual costs of materials and labour in that country. We carefully track and oversee all financial transactions.
  4. Hire Locally. To support the communities where we work, we hire local people to complete all projects when possible and we also buy supplies locally, rather than shipping them in.
  5. Work With Leaders. To make sure our projects are sustainable and have long-term benefits, we work only with schools that already have strong leadership in place, and just need resources and/or training.
Why Focus on Education?
No matter where you are in the world, education is the path to a better life for children and their families. It moves them from the list of people needing support onto the list of people who can offer support to others. With an education, children can grow up capable of initiating plans to help their communities, and have the knowledge and confidence to make it happen. They can learn to start their own businesses, run their own farming operations, and become community leaders. They are also able to think for themselves. When people are well educated they are more likely to become positive contributors to the world and make the world a better place for everyone.
